Since v3.6.0 Astra introduced a new feature, called “Self-hosted Google Fonts”. If you’d still like to have layered control of your locally hosted Google Fonts, you can still use OMGF, by disabling that option. In Astra’s documentation you can find where it’s located.
Upsides to using Astra’s integrated option:
- You no longer need an additional plugin to self-host Google Fonts.
- Same compression rates as OMGF
Downsides to using Astra’s integrated option:
- No control over which font styles are preloaded, it’s either all or none, which is bad for performance when using more than 4 different font styles.
- No control over which subsets are loaded by the font files.
- Only offers support for the Astra theme. It doesn’t detect Google Fonts of other plugins.
