Will my first visitors see an unoptimized page with Smart Optimize?
Table of Contents
Only the very first visitor of a page, once on a desktop and once on a mobile device. Every visitor after that gets the optimized page.
Smart Optimize analyzes each page in the browser of a real visitor, so it sees exactly which fonts are used, and where. The analysis runs after the page has finished loading, so that first visitor doesn’t notice anything.
Using a page cache?
Smart Optimize purges each page from your page cache right after optimizing it, so the next visitor immediately gets the optimized version. This works with most popular caching plugins, like WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache and Cloudflare. See Smart Optimize and page caching in Smart Optimize.
Want to be the first visitor yourself?
Visit your most important pages yourself, on a desktop and on a mobile device, right after enabling Smart Optimize. Then all your visitors get the optimized version. As an administrator, you’ll see each page reload once (see Why does the page reload when I’m logged in? below).
Why does the page reload when I’m logged in?
When you’re logged in as an administrator, Smart Optimize reloads a page once, right after analyzing it, so you immediately see the optimized result. The OMGF dot in the admin bar keeps blinking while the page reloads.
Your visitors never see this reload: for them, the analysis runs quietly in the background.
Once a page is optimized on desktop and mobile, it won’t reload again. You’ll only see it again after the Smart Optimize results are reset, for example when you empty OMGF’s cache, re-optimize a page from the admin bar, or change your Magic Fallbacks or approved font hosts.
