You’ve reached your activation limit

Seeing “You’ve reached your limit” when you activate your license? Then your license key is already active on as many sites as your license allows. Freeing up a slot takes less than a minute.

Which sites are using my license?

  1. Log in and go to License Keys.
  2. Under Activations, you’ll see how many slots you’re using. Click Manage Sites below it.

You’ll see every site your license key is active on. Often, it’s a site you no longer use, like an old domain or a staging copy you’ve since removed.

What counts as a site?

Every address your license is activated on uses a slot, e.g. a temporary domain from your host, an old domain after a move, a subdirectory install or each site in a multisite network. With or without www, over http or https: it all counts as the same site. And local and staging sites are free, see Can I use my license on development and/or staging environments?

Not sure which entry is which? Compare the addresses under Manage Sites with the Site Address (URL) under Settings › General in WordPress.

Free up a slot

  1. Under Manage Sites, click Deactivate next to the site you no longer use.
  2. Go back to your WordPress admin area and click Activate License again.

Still have access to the site you’d like to free up? Then you can also deactivate it from that site’s WordPress admin area. See Deactivating a License. Moving your site to a new domain? See I moved my site to a new host or domain. What happens to my license?

Need more sites?

You can upgrade your license to more sites yourself, in your account. See I need my license to support more websites. Can I upgrade?
