Settings

This manual describes each option in Brevo for Easy Digital Downloads in detail. The settings are available under Downloads › Settings › Marketing › Brevo.

Setting up the plugin for the first time? Start with Installation & Configuration.

Enable Brevo

Turns the integration on or off (default: off). The integration only works when this option is checked and an API key is entered. When it’s off, the opt-in checkbox isn’t shown at checkout and nothing is sent to Brevo.

API Key

Your Brevo API key, which you can create on the API keys page in your Brevo account. The plugin uses it to connect your site directly to Brevo.

The other options only appear after you’ve saved an API key.

Have you enabled authorised IPs in your Brevo account? Then add your server’s IP address there, or Brevo will refuse the connection.

Default List

The Brevo list customers are added to when they opt in at checkout. The dropdown shows all lists in your Brevo account, with their number of subscribers.

If a customer already exists as a contact in Brevo, their contact is updated and added to this list.

Just created a new list in Brevo and it’s not in the dropdown yet? Wait a minute and reload the settings page.

Checkout Text

The text shown next to the opt-in checkbox at checkout (default: “I would like to receive updates regarding my purchase.”). The checkbox is unchecked by default: customers have to check it themselves.

Only customers who check it are added to Brevo, with their email address, first name and last name, unless you’ve enabled Sync All Customers (see below).

Using the Free Downloads extension? Then the checkbox (with the same text) is also added to its download form. From that form, only the email address is sent to Brevo.

Sync All Customers

Adds every customer to Brevo after a completed purchase, also when they didn’t check the opt-in checkbox (default: off). When it’s off, only customers who check the opt-in checkbox are added.

Check it, and the All Customers List setting and the consent rows in Map Attributes appear.

When it’s on:

  • Every customer is added to the All Customers List and to the lists set on the downloads they bought (see Download settings below).
  • Customers who checked the opt-in checkbox are also added to the Default List (unless one of the downloads they bought has Subscribe to this List Only checked), and get the consent attributes (see Map Attributes below).

The plugin never revokes consent. A customer who opted in before and buys again without checking the checkbox keeps their consent, and stays on your Default List. Only unsubscribing in Brevo revokes it.

All Customers List

The list every customer is added to when Sync All Customers is on (only visible once it’s checked). This setting is required: it’s set to the first list in your Brevo account by default, so make sure you select the right list and click Save Changes.

Important: customers are added to this list regardless of consent. The same goes for the lists set on your downloads. Before you send a marketing campaign to these lists, filter on your consent attribute (see Map Attributes below), or send it to your Default List instead.

Map Attributes

Choose which Brevo contact attributes your customers’ details are stored in:

  • First Name and Last Name: leave them on Default (FIRSTNAME) and Default (LASTNAME) to use Brevo’s standard attributes, or select another text attribute.
  • Consent, Consent Date and Consent Source (only visible when Sync All Customers is checked): set for customers who check the opt-in checkbox, to yes, the date of their consent and EDD checkout.

By default, the consent rows create new attributes called MARKETING_CONSENT  , CONSENT_DATE   and CONSENT_SOURCE  . If an attribute with that name already exists in your Brevo account, it’s selected instead.

Need a new attribute? Select Create New Attribute in the dropdown and enter its name in the field below it. When you click Save Changes, it’s created in your Brevo account right away: as a yes/no attribute for Consent, a date attribute for Consent Date and a text attribute for the others.

Download settings

Each download has its own Brevo settings, in the Brevo section of the download’s edit screen:

  • Subscribe to Additional List (default: None): customers who buy this download and opt in are also added to this list.
  • Subscribe to this List Only: customers are added to the list selected above instead of the Default List.

When a customer buys multiple downloads at once, they’re added to the additional lists of all of them. If one of these downloads has Subscribe to this List Only checked, the Default List is skipped.

What if Brevo can’t be reached?

Your checkout works as usual. The customer just isn’t added to Brevo.
